Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Students

Scholarship for One-Semester Students

 

II. Scholarship Eligibility

The Application is open to applicants who have non-Chinese citizenship, between 16 and 35 years old, in good health. (Applicants currently working in a Chinese language teaching position must be under 45 years old.)

Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Students

Provides a scholarship for 11 months starting from September 2017. The scholarship is unavailable for students who were studying in China after January 1st 2017.This scholarship supports international students and scholars who aspire to devote themselves to Chinese translation, interpreting and Sinologic research. Applicant should have a minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 4), and reach an intermediate level in HSKK test.

Scholarship for One-Semester Students

Provides a scholarship for 5 months from September 2017 or March 2018. The scholarship is unavailable for students who have previously studied in China. Applicant should have a minimum score of 210 in HSK (Level 3), and have HSKK grades.

 

III. Scholarship Coverage

The full Confucius Institute Scholarship covers: tuition fee, accommodation fee, comprehensive medical insurance and provides a monthly stipend.

The partial Confucius Institute Scholarship covers: tuition fee, accommodation fee, and comprehensive medical insurance.

Tuition fee: Hainan University will cover the cost of the tuition for scholarship holders. Hainan University will also cover the cost of one of the Chinese language proficiency tests (HSK/HSKK).   

Accommodation fee: Hainan University provides scholarship holders with a free dormitory room. For those who live off campus (with the permission from Hainan University) are entitled to a monthly or quarterly accommodation allowance from Hainan University. The allowance criteria are RMB700 per person on monthly basis.

Monthly Stipend: A living allowance is granted by Hainan University on a monthly basis. The allowance per person is: RMB 2,500 per month.

Comprehensive medical insurance is purchased by Hainan University in accordance with relevant regulations regarding international students as stipulated by the Ministry of Education of China. The insurance fee is RMB800/year, RMB 400/semester per person.

 

IV. Application Documents

Recommending institutions and Hainan University will examine the completeness, validity and accuracy of applicant’s name, nationality and permanent address on the passport. If the following documents are not in Chinese or English, notarized documents must be provided.  

1. Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form

2. A scanned copy of the passport photo page. Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.

3. A valid copy of the HSK, HSKK certificate (test are valid for 2 years).

4. Recommendation letter signed by the head of the recommending institutions. (Please provide objective comments on the applicant, including whether the applicant is a student of Confucius Institute or another identity. Chinese language teachers shall submit an employment verification letter and a reference letter provided by the institutes they work for.)

5. Certification of the highest education diploma attained (or proof of expected graduation date), and an official transcript.

6. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form.

 

V. Application Procedure

For the application: please log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarships website (http://cis.chinese.cn) to register, check the recommendation and accepting institutions, complete the Confucius Institute Scholarships Application Form online, and upload the scanned copies of relevant supporting documents. Applicant should pay attention to the results of the application.

Applicants who have obtained the scholarship should:

Confirm with the Office for International Students’ Admissions & Scholarships Program, College of International Cultural Exchange, Hainan University about the procedures for studying in China.

Print the scholarship certificate online

Register on time.

Hanban will finish the scholarship evaluation prior to 2 months before the enrollment date.
